Are Dental Implants Better than Dentures?

Some people question visiting an implant dentist for fear that implants will not be as good as dentures. Tooth implants are actually permanent pieces that are put in your mouth to fill gaps you may have from missing teeth. Dentures can do the same thing, but they are removable. There are pros and cons to both options, so determining which option is right for you is simply a matter of knowing what to look for. Read on to find out whether implants or dentures are better suited for your needs.

Removal vs. Filling

For the most part, you must have all of your teeth removed to get dentures. There are some forms of dentures that only replace a few teeth in the mouth, but standard models replace all the teeth in the bottom, top, or both. With implants, you can have your full mouth of teeth replaced, but that is not necessary. The implants are merely meant to take the place of the teeth you are missing. An implant dentist will do all he or she can to get you suitable replacements for your teeth, and then he or she will insert them into your mouth so they become part of the ones that exist.

Color Matching

The problem that happens with some implants is that they do not match in color to the teeth that are already in the mouth. Of course, a patient can have his or her teeth whitened by an implant dentist, but that is another expense to consider. With dentures, the teeth look like a uniform color from the start. You could look into implant options like porcelain veneers where all of your teeth would be permanently replaced, and that would bypass any discoloration concerns that arise.

Analysis

As a whole, the only way you are truly going to be able to determine which option is best for you is to go in for a consultation. An implant dentist should be able to offer you a few ideas to choose from, and together you can come up with a logical game plan for your teeth. If you are on a budget, the dentist can determine if one option may be slightly more feasible for you than another. As long as you do enough research on the matter, you should be able to find the perfect solution for your troubled teeth.

What Defines a Good Cosmetic Dentist?

It is important to select a quality cosmetic dentist to work with if you want to get the best smile possible for your money. Finding a cheap dentist is not nearly as important as finding a well-qualified one, but that does not mean you have to use all your medical grants to get the service you deserve. Listed below are a few indications you can look for when selecting a proper cosmetic dentist.

Experience

A good cosmetic dentist is going to have experience in the industry. While it is possible for a dentist to be talented fresh out of grad school, experience can mold those talents to their best. You should seek help from a reputable dentist who has at least a couple years under his professional belt. That way you know he has had to encounter a variety of problems throughout his career, so he should be able to fix whatever issues you have with your teeth.

Results

You should be able to tell a good cosmetic dentist by the results he or she has been able to get for patients. Most dentists will have before and after pictures of their clients for you to look at upon request, and that should give you a good indication of what they may be able to do for you. You can go in for a consultation with the dentist to see how much you will have to pay for your dental work, and there you can discuss all the different options you have.

Options

You should be able to go through more than one route of dental work to get the smile you want. Invisalign, whitening, porcelain veneers, and others are all available in most situations. What options you have will depend on your specific dental problems, but you still should have more than one to choose from. Together, you and your cosmetic dentist should be able to come up with a plan that fits your needs and budget at the same time.

  1. Over time, people's teeth tend to naturally deteriorate. When a tooth has deteriorated substantially, it often needs to be extracted; and when multiple teeth are extracted, dentures may be the most appropriate solution. Dentures can create a natural and healthy looking set of teeth. In addition, a properly fitting set of dentures can greatly enhance your smile and sense of self-esteem.

  2. Eating habits greatly influence how soon your teeth deteriorates and discolors. In such cases extraction is required. A lot of missing teeth result in a bad smile and hence dentures are needed to enhance your smile aesthetics. Your article was very informative. Thank you for sharing it!
